The biggest mistake a gardener makes is scattering a number of plants, which attract butterflies, throughout their garden. We do this because we think we will have butterflies throughout the whole garden. It is much better to group flowers which attract butterflies in one area of the garden. This will tend to attract more butterflies because they do not have to travel as far from plant to plant. A butterfly garden should be planted in full sun, even if the plant can tolerate partial shade, because butterflies need warm body temperatures in order to fly.
