Astilbe arendsii 'Country and Western' PP#14,969 Common Name: “False Spirea”
(False Spirea) Astilbe 'Country and Western' PP#14,969 is very floriferous with pink flowers that look like fluffy puffs of cotton candy. The healthy dark green foliage contrasts nicely to the bright flower color. Astilbe 'Country and Western' also makes nice cut or dried flower arrangements.
Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips:
Astilbes grow best in light shade or filtered sun. If these, long-lived perennials, are planted in deep shade, they will not bloom as prolifically. Though they are easy to grow, Astilbes need to be kept consistently moist. If Astilbes are allowed to dry the leaves will develop brown, crispy margins and will begin to drop. Also, Astilbes are shallow rooted and often dry faster then other plants around them. Astilbes should be fertilized in late spring before flowering starts. Dormant foliage should not be cut back until spring; it will help protect the plant from winter damage. Plants should be divided in early spring every 3-4 years to maintain vigor. Propagation is by division.
