Common Name: “Common Thrift”
Armeria maritima Rubrifolia -- Common Thrift

(Common Thrift) Dark burgundy mounds of grass like foliage are topped with a profuse display of adorable little magenta-pink balls in the spring. Armeria 'Rubrifolia' makes an excellent addition for the rock garden or combination container! The colorful evergreen foliage remains compact and attractive all season, although it does green up a little during the heat of the summer. Native to coastlines where few other plants can handle the high salt concentrations. Requires good drainage.

Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips:
Sea Thrift should be planted in loamy or sandy soils that are well-drained. Mulch with pine boughs or other evergreen branches. Heavier mulches like leaves can increase the moisture around the crown. This can encourages crown or root rots. Thrifts prefer cool temperatures and low humidity. Where summers are hot and humid, it should be grown in partial shade. Propagation is by seed or division.
