(Clematis) 'Royal Velours' is a very hardy cultivar with a rich color that would be suitable for a king's robe! The 3" flowers are velvety dark reddish purple to reddish black which are deeply veined with lighter midribs. Long blooming from midsummer to early autumn. Makes a wonderful contrast when grown through shrubs with silver, grey, or golden foliage or with climbing roses.
