Check your Clematis varieties in this website: http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=237

Search 'Pruning', where it'll tell you which Pruning Group it belongs to.

I prune my Jack in January here, to about 12" from the ground. I'm in zone 8, about 60 miles south of Dallas,TX That works really well for here.

nancy

prune it back hard in late winter (when you prune roses). when forsythis is in bloom or there abouts.

My Jack Manni clematis did very well the first year, then I pruned it in April the second year, all the way down to about 15 inches. This year, I only have one flower so far, and the rest of the bush leaves are on the top. From the bottom to almost the top, it seems bare. I need help!
