I have many annabelles in zone 4 (Wisconsin) and have had amazing success with them, less success with endless summer, but this year, despite the head they're doing fine so I'm thinking Hydrangeas may take a few years to put down roots. |

In response to twinz: I work in a garden center in zone 4 and we sell a lot of Annabelle hydrangeas. Have not had any returned and I hear good reviews from customers. You might give it a try. |

Lets dance Moonlight and Lets dance Starlight are both great selections. They are a pink flower, Moonlight is HUGE! They bloom on both old and new wood so that is nice also! |

Try Hydrangea macrophylla 'Endless Summer'. In my z4-5 (western PA) garden, all the stems above the ground die back. But it has reliably bloomed on new wood over 2 winters now. Had an old 'Nikko Blue', out of 8 years I owned it, only bloomed nicely once. The rest of the time, had one flower here and there. (The only reservation I have with 'Endless Summer', is about its color. They're not as intense as many other macrophyllas. But being in a cold zone, it's better than nothing.) I also like ‘Blushing Bride’ very much for its nice flower-foliage contrast. Bought a small ‘Let's Dance Starlight’ from here via mail-order last year. After one winter, it's flower-buds laden right now. Looks very promising. Don't know how the color will turn out yet. Will post the picture once it blooms

If there is anyone from the zone 4 (southeast idaho area) that might suggest a hydrangea good for this area and how to prep the soil and maintain. Thank you! |
