I love it when the first flowers of spring appear. Aquilegia 'Clementine Dark Purple' is one of those that just amazes me with its strong flowering ability. They also bloom quite long while you wait for your other plants to wake up.

This plant has yet to be reviewed.

(Columbine) Aquilegia 'Clementine Dark Purple' is part of a spectacular new generation of Columbine with flowers resembling a small double flowering Clematis. The rich purple flowers of 'Clementine Dark Purple' are fully double and spurless. In late spring through early summer these beauties are packed with blooms above the compact foliage. The upward facing flowers also make excellent cut flowers!

Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips:

Columbine should be planted in partial shade areas in southern climates. They can tolerate full sun in the north, although light shade will prolong their flowering time. They grow very easily in loose, average to rich, well-drained soil. In the fall, columbine should be cut back to their basal foliage. Remove only the dead leaves in the spring. Columbine can sometimes be affected by leaf miners. If this happens, remove and destroy all the leaves affected by the leaf miners. Columbines do not require mulching unless they are planted in beds with wide open exposures. Propagation should be done by seed rather than by division.
