Collection: Petunia Supertunia - Annuals
Petunias are annual flowers that offer big bursts of color in the garden from spring through fall. There are compact petunia varieties and trailing petunia varieties, and each grow equally well in containers or as bedding plants in the landscape. Garden Crossings has improved varieties of traditional petunias as well as Supertunia® plants available. You can select from single or double flowered petunias in a wide variety of colors, including those with two or three-toned flowers. Grow petunias in full sun and moist but well-drained soil. Fertilize every couple weeks in the summer to encourage masses of blooms. Keep an eye out for butterflies and hummingbirds—they love to sip nectar from petunia flowers.

FAQs
Supertunia varieties are known for vigorous, heat-tolerant growth that trails well from containers and hanging baskets. Wave petunias are a separate spreading groundcover type bred to fill landscape beds quickly. Both perform reliably, but Supertunia types are often chosen specifically for basket and container displays.
Petunia plants generally perform best under full or partial sun. Consistent sunlight supports the continuous blooming these flowers are known for, while too much shade can lead to leggy growth and fewer flowers over the course of a season.
Most modern petunia varieties, including Supertunia types, are self-cleaning and do not require manual deadheading to maintain continuous blooms. This low-maintenance trait allows the plants to flower steadily through spring, with minimal upkeep beyond regular watering and feeding.
Trailing petunia varieties spill attractively over the edges of hanging baskets and window boxes, making them a strong choice for vertical display. Upright or mounding types suit garden beds and border plantings better, so choosing based on your container or planting location improves overall results.
Petunia flowers come in a wide array of colors, including pink, purple, red, white, and multicolored patterns like veined or star-shaped blooms. This variety allows gardeners to mix and match shades within containers or beds for a coordinated or contrasting seasonal color display.
