(Hardy Aster) Aster 'Blue Autumn' PPAF is covered with hundreds of daisy-like deep blue flowers in late summer and it puts on a spectacular show through fall. The healthy dark green foliage of 'Blue Autumn' PPAF has a compact mounding habit and is very resistant to mildew. It also attracts butterflies!
Asters perform best in rich, well-drained soils. Proper spacing is essential because Asters tend to meld down from August heat and humidity if there is not good air circulation around the base of the plant. Good air circulation will also help to prevent powdery mildew. Asters do need to be mulched during the winter months. Pinch back in early summer to promote branching, short growth and more flowers. Asters also need to be divided every other spring to maintain their health and vigor. Propagation is by stem cuttings or division.
