Stormy's Review
Location: Overland, MO
Hardiness Zone: 6

Amazing Plant! Ordered it last summer planted it in a full shade garden and it never bloomed not once. I thought it was dead by fall and plunked it out and replaced with another plant. However the root ball started to regrow the spring, so I planted it in full sun and it loves it! Wonderful hardy FULL SUN plant.

Common Name: “False Spirea”

(False Spirea) Astilbe 'Country and Western' PP14,969 is very floriferous with pink flowers that look like fluffy puffs of cotton candy. The healthy dark green foliage contrasts nicely to the bright flower color. 'Country and Western' PP14,969 also makes nice cut or dried flower arrangements.

False Spirea Growing Tips:

Astilbes grow best in light shade or filtered sun. If these, long-lived perennials, are planted in deep shade, they will not bloom as prolifically. Though they are easy to grow, Astilbes need to be kept consistently moist. If Astilbes are allowed to dry the leaves will develop brown, crispy margins and will begin to drop. Also, Astilbes are shallow rooted and often dry faster then other plants around them. Astilbes should be fertilized in late spring before flowering starts. Dormant foliage should not be cut back until spring; it will help protect the plant from winter damage. Plants should be divided in early spring every 3-4 years to maintain vigor. Propagation is by division.
