Baptisia - False Indigo

If you are looking for a native plant that is drought tolerant and easy to grow, look no further than Baptisia or False Indigo. This member of the pea family has 2 1/2-3′ foliage that is dense and gives the plant a shrub-like appearance. The pea-like blossoms appear on flower spikes 12-24″ long and come in many colors ranging from indigo blue, to pink, to yellow, to white, and even brown!
When choosing a site for your False Indigo plant, pick a site in full sun and one where you will not have to move your plant, as Baptisia roots grow deep and don’t like to be disturbed.
