(Fiber Optic Grass) GRACEFUL GRASSES® Scirpus Fiber Optic Grass is part of the PROVEN WINNERS®® GRACEFUL GRASSES® collection. The bright green grass-like plant has small, fluffy, white flowers at the tip, which look like fiber optics. GRACEFUL GRASSES® Fiber Optic Grass does well in part to full sun, growing 10-14 inches tall and wide, drooping slightly as it gets longer for a unique mop-like spray. It prefers a moist location and is an excellent choice near ponds. Also, use as a thriller or filler in your container, rock garden, landscape, and known for inhabiting fairy gardens! Fiber Optic Grass is considered an annual in northern climates, and an evergreen in zones 8 to 10.

When I unwrapped this plant, I actually gasped. Yes I expected it to be beautiful, but it was also huge. For context, I’ve purchased this plant before at a local nursery. I had only purchased one since I was not sure how I’d like it. Well, I love it. The graceful, wispy texture it adds is so charming. I wanted to add more, but the local nursery had no more left and it being so late in the season, they were not sure when they were going to get more, so I bought a quart from Garden Crossings.Well the quart from Garden Crossings was 3 times (maybe 4) the size of the quart I had gotten at the local nursery earlier in the season. I am unsure if this is because it grows fast, but I was pleased as punch, needless to say.

I had wanted to add just one more clump, but I ended up dividing this into 4 very full bunches!! Because I now had so many, my plans for them changed. They are now planted in a raised bed under an espalier of evergreen clematis, a well-sheltered area hugging the wall of the house. In my zone 8 garden, I would expect them to over winter just fine here, but I will be sure to keep them well-watered.
