SELECTING THE PROPER POT AND SOIL: When planting our Annual Combos or Individual Annuals we recommend planting them in a container that has good drainage, a hole in the bottom of the pot. We recommend planting in Proven Winners® Premium All Purpose Potting Soil or a potting soil that retains moisture yet, has good drainage. We strongly discourage reusing old potting soil or digging dirt from your garden for your containers.
PLANTING YOUR CONTAINER/BASKETS: Depending on the size of your basket or container, we recommend filling your pot to ½ to ¾ full of soil. Next, remove your plants from the pots they came in and arrange them in an ‘X’ pattern ( 12-14” pot). If you have a Thriller or a single plant we recommend placing that in the center of the ‘X’. Once you are satisfied with the layout fill in the gaps with additional potting soil. We recommend that the soil covers the top of the dirt around your plants by at least 1/2 inch. \We recommend a 1 inch gap from the top of the soil to the top of your pot, this helps as a water reservoir when you are watering.
CONTINUING CARE: As with all living things water and food are important, Annual Container Creations are no exception. Plants in containers can dry out faster than when planted in the ground. We recommend watering your planters daily in the heat of the summer, making sure to see the water dripping from the bottom of the pot to ensure and good watering. Due to the constant watering, nutrients are getting flushed from the soil, they need to be replenished with a water soluble fertilizer such as Proven Winners® Premium Water Soluble Plant Food every 1-2 weeks. If you see flowers only at the ends of your plants, this is a sign that you need more fertilizer. And the final recommendation to keeping your Annual Container Creations looking great, is to give them a good ‘haircut’ from time to time. If you feel like they are starting to look tired, go ahead and trim up to ⅓ of the plant back as well as removing any dead flowers that may remain. This will encourage regrowth and additional blooms for your Container Creation.
