(Highbush Blueberry) Enjoy the ripe freshness of Patriot Blueberries in your own backyard. Hardy in zones 3-7, Patriot Blueberries forms large, firm berries with a sweet blueberry taste. Forming large clusters of berries, Patriot is often used at U-pick markets and has excellent yield, disease resistance and easy to grow. In the early summer small white flowers emerge followed by tasty berries in July to mid- August. Patriot berries are adaptable to many soil types as long as they are in well-drained soil with a pH level between 4.0 and 5.0. A full sun location is recommended for best performance. Patriot are considered partially self-fertile. We recommend planting more than one variety to increase your yield, size of berries and to extend your harvesting season. Blueberry Patriot is considered a High Bush variety withstanding cold winters. Standing 4-6 foot tall at maturity, we recommend that you let your plant put on growth for the first 3-4 years pinching back any blossoms that form. This will allow your plant to put on good, strong growth. Once your plant has matured, at around 5-6 years, you will reach full production. We recommend at this time to trim any dead or weak branches out, this will stimulate new growth meaning more berries.
