Details

(Korean Feather Reed Grass) An Ornamental Grass that can be grown in part shade? Yes it is true! Calamagrostis brachytricha is a full sun to part shade loving grass and can even grow in shade locations. When grown in shade to part shade you may notice a ‘looser’ plants with not as many plumes. Standing 4 foot tall and spreading up to 3 foot wide, Calamagrostis brachytricha forms an upright habit that is slightly arching at the top. The 12 inch wide, glossy green foliage looks great with the fluffy plumes that develop and start to bloom late summer into the fall. The tight purplish red plumes start to emerge nestled down in the foliage as they grow taller they loosen up creating the fluffy look. Hardy in zones 4-9, Calamagrostis brachytricha prefers fertile soil with average moisture. This deer resistant ornamental grass makes for perfect borders, hedges, or mass plantings. Before the season is over make sure to trim a few plumes for dried floral arrangements or your winter container designs.
