Foxglove, also known as Digitalis, will provide vertical interest and structure to the garden. Low-growing foliage is topped by 2-5' tall flower spires with tubular blooms depending on the variety. Foxglove grow best in rich, well-drained soil with adequate moisture. Plant in full to part sun, but keep in mind that the hotter the summer temperature in your zone the more shade the plant will need especially in the afternoon hours. Foxglove is a biennial or short-lived perennial which means it completes its life cycle in two years. Growing foliage and roots its first year and blooming in the second. Although a biennial, most foxglove will produce seed, therefore keeping the plants coming year after year. Please note, all parts of the plant are toxic, so keep children and animals away. This explains why this is a great deer and rabbit resistant plant, but watch the hummingbirds seek out the nectar!
