(Bee balm) Monarda didyma 'Purple Rooster' will really 'strut it's stuff' in the landscape. Selected and named by David and Nancy Nedveck from a batch of didyma seedlings, this 3-foot tall Monarda performs well and does not require staking. 'Purple Rooster' displays royal purple blooms that attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to the landscape, while also being deer resistant. 'Purple Rooster' does best in full sun to part shade and spreads up to 26 inches, making this a great choice for borders, mass plantings and a 'must' for butterfly gardens! Native to eastern North America, Monarda is easy to grow and has a minty aromatic foliage, often used to flavor teas.

Monarda Purple Rooster Bee Balm Review by Pat | Zone: 7a
I planted this last year and it has really spread to approximately 6 foot square area. Very prolific with lots of flowers first year planted. Anxiously waiting for the bloom this year. Bees and butterflies love it! (Posted on 5/27/2017)
Disappointing Review by Purple L | Zone: 7a
I love purple and was hoping for many purple flowers from 3 Monarda plants I purchased. The leaf growth was all over the place. However, I only had one flower. It was absolutely gorgeous, but how disappointing. The plants were in full sun a good portion of the day. Hoping season 2 will be improved. (Posted on 11/10/2012)
Gorgeous Blooms Review by Karen G | Zone: 7a
I know I'm not the only one buying lots and lots of purple for the garden. As soon as I saw this, I knew I had to have it! I'll know more next summer, but this year my baby Roosters did very well with lots of gorgeous blooms that held up well and came over a long period. If you're like me and can't get enough purple, this is the Monarda to get. (Posted on 1/12/2012)
