(Super Poppy) Improved breeding in the Oriental Poppy family has produced the excellent series called the Super Poppy. Papaver oriental 'Heartbeat' has double, deep red petals with a contrasting black center that last longer in bloom and hold up better in the weather. A much hardier plant, 'Heartbeat' Poppy grows in zones 3-9 on nice strong stems. In mid summer you may notice that your plant goes dormant, and in cooler climates you may enjoy a secondary bloom in late summer. Papaver oriental 'Heartbeat' prefers to be grown in a full sun location that has well-drained soil. Standing approximately 29 inches tall, ' Heartbeat' is a great accent or border plant and is a deer and rabbit resistant variety. Be sure to enjoy the elegant blooms indoors as well as a cut flower.
