(Ironweed) Tough as nails is how I would describe Vernonia Iron Butterfly. A heat and sun loving native perennial that grows where most plants can't. Standing 30-36 inches tall and wide, Vernonia Iron Butterfly forms a dense upright mounding habit. The fine foliage resembles that of Amsonia hubrichtii and in late summer fluffy lavender flowers appear. The blossoms of Iron Butterfly attract butterflies and bees. Grown in full sun with moderate to dry soil, Iron Butterfly Veronia is often found alongside the road, between rocks, and in gravely areas.
