(Astilbe) The vibrant upright blooms of Astilbe ‘Vision in Red’ give the garden a real glow. ‘Vision in Red’ is a compact Astilbe standing only 15 inches tall and wide creating an upright mound of color. Midsummer deep red flower spikes emerge and open to deep pink plumes. The flowers are held on deep red stems that are nestled just above the bronzy green foliage. This robust growing Astilbe is part of the Chinensis family. What that means is that it is later to blooms than other Astilbes and can handle more sun and can tolerate some drought. Planted in full sun to full shade locations, ‘Vision in Red’ prefers and does best in moist soil, but can handle some drought. No need to worry about the deer and rabbits with this critter resistant perennial. Astilbes are a great addition to woodland gardens, create great borders, and make an excellent container plant. The fragrant blooms can be cut and enjoyed in a vase, or dried for floral projects. Enjoy adding an upright splash of color to your shady gardens with Astilbe ‘Vision in Red’.
