(Sedge) Carex ‘Banana Boat’ is a great addition to your shady locations! The foliage is 1″ wide, and it’s bright banana yellow and green margins with stripes. At first look, you may think that this ornamental grass is a miniature lance-leaved hosta. Reaching only 6-12 inches high, this grass will make a nice ground cover in any part shade to shade location, adding a nice ‘pop’ of color to those darker areas. ‘Banana Boat’ Carex is also great as a specimen in the garden border or in a container. Sedges grow well in moist locations, but are adaptable to drier areas once established. When cleaning up for the fall or spring, you can trim ‘Banana Boat’ back to the base and let it reflush for the spring. ‘Banana Boat’ Carex is a good choice for gardens with deer issues, as it is deer resistant.
