(Japanese Astilbe) Astilbes are not just for shade gardens! Check out Astilbe ‘Montgomery’, a beautiful addition for full sun to full shade gardens. Standing 20-24 inches tall and wide, Astilbe ‘Montgomery’ creates an upright mounding habit. The glossy green foliage emerges in the spring, with hints of burgundy to its leaves. It has deep magenta red blooms forming triangular spikes of color midsummer. Astilbes in the japonica family are known for their earlier bloom time as well as the glossy foliage that emerges in the spring with a hint of red. Astilbe prefer to be grown in damp fertile soils. This bee friendly cultivar is deer and rabbit resistant. Astilbes are a perfect addition to woodland gardens, as well as in patio containers. Enjoy the beautiful fragrance of Astilbe ‘Montgomery’ in your garden or in a cut flower arrangement.
