'Ville De Lyon' Clematis

(Clematis) A true garden beauty, ‘Ville De Lyon’ is a vigorous free flowering clematis cultivar that will certainly attract attention to your landscape. The velvety, cherry-red 7 inch flowers are made of perfectly formed, overlapping petals with deep pink central bars. Nicely contrasting yellow anthers complete the look. Standing 10-12 feet tall, ‘Ville De Lyon’ is a great choice for growing up and over arbors, and an excellent rebloomer from June through September. Hardy in zones 4-9, it grows best in full sun to part shade. Its roots like to be kept well shaded, so consider surrounding them with ground cover perennials or mulch. The blooms of ‘Ville De Lyon’ will attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Deer tend to stay away from this plant. It is a part of prune group 3. In the early spring (February or March), it requires its main roots to be trimmed until they are only 3 feet above ground and there is at least one pair of buds on each stem.
