(Smokebush) Add a bright splash of foliage color to your landscape with Cotinus WINECRAFT GOLD®. An improvement of ‘Golden Spirit’, WINECRAFT GOLD® is more vigorous and has better burn resistance. In the spring, new foliage emerges orangey red in color. WINECRAFT GOLD® stands 4-6 feet tall and spreads up to 4 feet wide, forming an upright mounding habit. Hardy in zones 5-8, Smokebush likes to be planted in full sun to part sun locations. In early summer, green flowers emerge, and as they age turn to an airy pink puff of “smoke”. This deer resistant shrub is very adaptable to most soil types, even in clay. WINECRAFT GOLD® Smokebush blooms off old growth, so trimming is not recommended unless you need to shape your plant. WINECRAFT GOLD® Cotinus is a PROVEN WINNERS® COLORCHOICE® Flowering Shrub.

I love this shrub. It looks fabulous all season long with iridescent color from the get-go. The foliage has an interesting structure that is airy and light and moves with just the slightest breeze. The tips have a bit of red in the spring but maintains a strong chartreuse all season. Grew very quickly in its first full year. A few smoke plumes appeared in its first year but it’s already showing promise of a prolific bloom this summer. A real eye-catching specimen plant.
