Urge To Splurge' Spurge (Euphorbia)
- Late Spring Color,
- Colorful Fall Foliage,
- A Must Have
Description
(Spurge) Euphorbia 'Urge to Splurge' is a vibrant perennial that brings early-season color and texture to gardens. Reaching 22–26 inches in height and spreading 42–48 inches wide, it forms a lush, mounded presence. In early spring, it showcases bright chartreuse-yellow flowers, which are actually colorful bracts, signaling the arrival of the season. As the flowers fade, the plant's blue-green foliage takes center stage, transitioning to rich red and bronze hues in the fall, offering multi-season interest.
This spurge thrives in zones 4-9 and prefers full sun in northern regions and part sun (with afternoon shade) in southern areas. It excels in dry, well-drained soils and is notably heat and drought tolerant. Its resilience extends to being deer and rabbit resistant, thanks to a milky sap that deters browsing animals; however, this sap can irritate skin, so handling with care is advised.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, 'Urge to Splurge' is pollinator-friendly, attracting a variety of beneficial insects during its bloom period. Its low-maintenance nature and adaptability make it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and xeriscapes, providing both beauty and ecological benefits throughout the growing season. Euphorbia 'Urge to Splurge' is a Proven Winners ® Perennial.
