(Hosta) ‘Patriot’ Hosta stands out in the landscape with its clean, crisp colors. The ovate leaves have dark green centers with white, streaked margins that are slightly wavy. This hosta has a good sun tolerance and produces lavender flowers on 30-inch scapes in midsummer. These flowers attract hummingbirds with their tubular shape. Hardy in zones 3-9, this hosta can reach a maximum height of 22 inches and can spread up to 30 inches in width. Hostas grow best in part shade to full shade areas but this hosta can handle a bit more sun than most. If planting in a sunny area of the garden, it is recommended to mulch around the base of the plant to ensure the soil around the roots stays moist. We also recommend trimming off the leaves in the fall once they are spent for the season and start to become slimy. This will help mitigate slugs, and will help prepare the plant for new growth in the spring. Hosta ‘Patriot’ looks great planted amongst other hostas, or with other shade loving plants such as ferns, bleeding hearts, astilbe, and more. ‘Patriot’ is a sport of Hosta ‘Francee’ and an American Hosta Growers Hosta of the Year winner for 1997.

The Right Touch
One of my favorite HOSTA’s adds just the right touch to flower beds. Stays great all season long.

Looks Fresh
One of my favorite hostas. The dark green and white combo looks fresh. Mine is in a large container (Dallas is not very Hosta friendly). For me, it has lived up to its heat-tolerant claim.
