(Elderberry) BLACK LACE® Sambucus is perhaps the coolest plant on the market! This new Sambucus looks more like a Japanese maple or a Cimicifuga but it is a whole lot easier to grow. The lacy, intense purple-black foliage offers unique texture to the garden and provides season long interest. In midsummer, massive clusters of pink flowers cover the plant and emit a light lemon fragrance. The flowers are a wonderful contrast to the dark foliage. BLACK LACE® is extremely durable and an excellent grower! A PROVEN WINNERS® COLORCHOICE® Flowering Shrub.

I love the contrast of the dark foliage against the lawn and surrounding shrubs of green. In it’s second year I can see where this is going to be a standout in it’s locations. Looking forward to increased blooms this season.

Superb!
Last year was my 2nd season with this plant. A little hard to get going with our drought, but it is beautiful. The blooms are superb!

Lovely Flower Clusters
Lovely flower clusters throughout the season. Birds enjoy the berries. Black Lace is a little leggy, and breaks easily, so should be planted well away from pathways.

Slow Growth
Second year in the ground showing slow growth, branchy but not much foliage.
