Purple Queen' Purple Spiderwort (Tradescantia)
- Foliage Interest Sun/Shade,
- Filler in Containers,
- Adaptable As A House Plant
Description
(Purple Spiderwort) Add a little whimsy to your planters or ground plants with Tradescantia ' Purple Queen'. The purple foliage creates a 12-18 inch spreading mound up to 24 inches wide. In the summer, pinkish purple flowers emerge for an added bonus to this already stunning foliage plant. Grown in full sun to full shade locations, many of our southern gardeners appreciate this plant as a spreading ground cover. Once established it is drought tolerant. This is a great selection for containers and hanging baskets, as the spreading trailing habit will mingle through the other plants you have it paired with. If you are planting this alone, it may benefit from a pinch every so often to help bulk it up for a fuller plant. Enjoy the beautiful deer-resistant foliage of Tradescantia 'Purple Queen'. Tradescantia 'Purple Queen' can also be grown as a house plant if you want to bring it in after the season is over.
