See what our great customers had to say about the Platycodon 'Astra Double Blue'
I'm not sure what happened with the previous reviewer's plant, but mine looked exactly like the picture. Periwinkle blue and was gorgeous! I planted it in a terrace rock garden, west side of the house. Loved it! And, I'm happy to say it survived WI zone 4 winter just fine. Just coming up now 4/23/10. I purchased it last year from GC, and was very happy with it.
Here's the thing, this flower is NOT blue. It is deep purple. So if you are looking for deep purple, you are in luck. And they are also NOT deer resistant, the deer ate almost all the buds in one night. I've only gotten two blooms, and they are deep purple. It's a pretty flower, but I'm just saying, it is NOT blue, and it is NOT deer resistant, as advertised!
(Balloon Flower) Platycodon 'Astra Double Blue' is a wonderful new dwarf variety! 'Astra' Platycodons are a new series that form compact, well branched plants. The interesting balloon-like buds burst open into bell-shaped double flowers. The compact habit of 'Astra Double Blue' also make it ideal for pots or mixed containers.
