Blackberry

There is nothing more satisfying than growing your own berries and blackberries are a very easy fruit to grow. Native to the United States, Blackberries are produced on the canes of a perennial shrub. Canes die the year after they produce fruit, so these will need to be removed with regular pruning. This will encourage more fruiting canes the following year. Blackberry come in semi-erect to trailing forms and most varieties do best with trellising support and regular pruning. Growing best in full sun and in well-drained fertile soil, blackberry will reward you with handfuls of delicious, dark purple fruits great for eating fresh or making pies, jams or jellies.
