Lily of the Nile
Lily of the Nile or African Lily plant is the common name for Agapanthus. It is a South African native, herbaceous perennial grown from rhizomes. Lily of the Nile will provide a showy, exotic look to garden beds, borders or containers. The many small flowers of Lily of the Nile explode like spheres of fireworks above the long, slender foliage. The blooms come in many shades of blue, purple and white and will bloom from early summer to early fall depending on the variety. Lily of the Nile prefer full sun and fertile, moist, well-drained soil, although most cultivars are drought tolerant once established. If grown in hot climates, Lily of the Nile will need partial shade and in northern climates, Lily of the Nile will benefit from winter protection.
