Polemonium - Jacob’s Ladder

Jacob’s Ladder is a beautiful perennial typically found growing in woodland areas, along streams and river banks and in naturalized areas.  The fern-like foliage of Polemonium is a perfect companion for hostas and other shade loving plants.  Unlike hostas, however, Polemonium is deer resistant.  The bell-shaped flowers of Jacob’s Ladder are usually purple and bloom loosely atop stems that rise above the delicate foliage in late spring.  Best grown in moist, well-drained soil in part shade, Polemonium can tolerate full sun in cool summer climates with adequate moisture.  Place Jacob’s Ladder in the middle to front of the border, in shade or woodland gardens.
