Papaver - Oriental Poppy

Strikingly beautiful, Oriental Poppies or Papaver have delicate papery flowers that are large and cup-shaped. Cold-hardy and growing in zones 2-8, oriental poppies perform poorly in regions with hot summers. The plants will go dormant after blooming, so do not be alarmed and think that they have died. Just make sure to plant other perennials around them to take over after their late spring to early summer bloom. Poppies have deep tap roots making them difficult to move once established, so site them accordingly. They require well-drained soil in full sun areas and make great cut flowers. Coming in a variety of colors, Oriental Poppies are also deer and rabbit resistant.
