Verbascum

Verbascum or Mullein is a lovely cottage-garden perennial that is drought tolerant and deer resistant. A great combination! Tall upright flower spikes are covered with small cup shaped blooms that rise from a dense rosette of fuzzy leaves. Verbascum can tolerate many soil conditions, including poor dry ones, but must have good drainage and prefers full sun. Some varieties tend to be short-lived perennials, sometimes 2-3 years, but will self-seed to ensure continued enjoyment year to year. Not only does Verbascum make a great cut flower, but hummingbirds love the colorful blooms also!
