Summersweet -Clethra

You will add sweet fragrance to your summer garden with Summersweet, also known as Clethra. This attractive native shrub has glossy dark green leaves that set off tall spires of bottle-brush style flowers that will bring on the butterflies but resist the deer. Easily grown in average, medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade, Summersweet is also tolerant of clay soils and full shade, but does not like dry conditions. Ideal for mixed borders or naturalizing, be sure to plant where you can enjoy the sweet scent!
