Commonly called Mandevilla, dipladenias in the SUN PARASOL® series have flowers with a distinct pinwheel shape. These blooms stand out amongst narrow, glossy green foliage. This mandevilla is a vigorous grower and can reach a maximum height of 20-24 inches and a maximum width of 12-16 inches. Growing in an upright habit, it makes a great plant for containers, hanging baskets, or the landscape. It is sure to bring color to your garden all spring and summer long! I have had the opportunity to grow this new variety of mandevilla for three years in my tropical home garden in Columbus, Ohio. It makes an excellent container thriller plant. The plant requires full sun. It grows upright and does not vine. It blooms from early spring to late fall. What makes this plant special are its colorful bright orange blossoms. They remind me of Fourth of July fireworks lightning up the night sky. Part of the garden is located on a street facing corner lot in Historic German Village. .As I work in the garden I am asked by people walking by, what is the name of that orange plant and where can I buy it? I recommend fertilizing once a week with a soluble fertilizer like 20-20-20 until mid July then every other week until the end of September. My experience has been that Insects don’t like this plant and nor do diseases, but people sure do and you will too. Happy Gardening!
