Julie W.'s Review
Location: Dallas, TX
Hardiness Zone: 8

Purchased and planted in large container this spring. Vigorous grower, lots of blooms for young plant. Seems to be tolerating our heat. Gave it a 4 stars because color isn't quite as rich in our heat and relentless sun. Still, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Planted two of them 18" in apart in '05 to climb a trellis. They're still going strong and bloom like crazy.

Ruutel is one surprising clematis. The color is much richer than photographs capture. Twenty eight flowers the first year, in a pot, amazing! Randy

Common Name: “Clematis”

(Clematis) Ruutel™ Clematis is one of the very best red clematis! The magenta red color is stunning and complimented by nearly black anthers. These star shaped flowers begin putting on a performance in early spring that lasts straight until early fall - nonstop! Ruutel™ is a vigorous grower and an exceptionally heavy bloomer! The compact habit also makes this cultivar an excellent choice for patio containers.

Clematis Growing Tips:

Clematis Prune Group 2 - These cultivars produce early season bloom on the previous season's growth and late season flowers on new growth. Generally, these cultivars are only pruned to shape. In the early spring (February or March), prune them lightly above the first pair of new swollen leaf buds, removing about 12 inches from each shoot. Also remove any dead or weak stems at this time.
