Alyssum

Perennial Alyssum, also known as Madwort, is native to the mountain areas of Southeastern Europe and is hardy in USDA zones 4-9.  This drought tolerant, low growing plant (typically 6-8 inches high), is excellent as a ground cover and can be used as a border, in the rock garden, cottage garden, or in containers.  It can handle poor soil conditions, it is deer and rabbit resistant and it attracts pollinators.  Not only does it have all these great attributes, it brings fragrance and a splash of sunshine to the garden with its numerous small, bright yellow flowers in April and May.  Alyssum likes full sun and dry to average well-draining soil.  It will be a cheery addition to any sunny, dry area in the garden!
