Tradescantia or ‘Spiderwort’ is a native, late spring/early summer blooming prairie wildflower. The three-petaled purple flowers appear amid grass-like blades of foliage. Each bloom of Tradescantia only last for one day, but each stalk produces multiple flower buds to provide a new flush of color throughout the growing season. ‘Spiderwort’ can grow in full sun to full shade but must be kept consistently moist. It is recommended to cut the plants back after blooming to encourage new growth and a second flush of blooms.
