Do It Yourself Butterfly Feeders…

For The Crafty Gardener!
Do you consider yourself crafty? Do you like little garden accessories in your flower beds? I sure do! Recently we held a Pinterest Party in which we made Butterfly feeders for our garden and landscapes. If you are even just a little bit crafty, this project is for you.
DIY Butterfly Feeders
To start off you will need a few supplies:
- Terracotta Clay Pot & Saucer (we used a 4″ pot and 6″ saucer)
- Glass Glue (E6000)
- Acrylic paint & brushes
- Glass Marbles
- Water & Sugar
Step 1) run a line of E6000 glue along the bottom of your 4″ terra cotta pot in a circle
Step 2) place the bottom of your clay saucer on the bottom off your clay pot that has the glue on it
Step 3) let dry overnight, or until the glue has set
Once your glue has set it is now time to paint your pot. Using various colors of acrylic paint, paint any design you would like on your pot. Let Dry.
Once your paint has dried you can place your glass marbles in the saucer.
Taking 1 part water to 4 parts sugar you will make your butterfly food. I recommend warming up 1/4 cup of water and adding 1 cup of sugar, stirring until it dissolves. Once your solution is mixed you will want to pour just enough in the saucer so that the marbles are only covered up half way.
Place your butterfly feeder in a warm location in your garden. Butterflies will sit on the marbles and sip the sweet homemade nectar from your feeder as they bask in the summer sun.
