(Blackberry Lily) In the trial gardens, Belamcanda ‘Freckle Face’ really stood out to our staff. Large clusters of bright 2 inch wide orange flowers are speckled in red with a golden glow. Standing 18-24 inches tall and spreading 12 inches wide, Belamcanda ‘Freckle Face’ has long, pointed bright green foliage. Hardy in zones 4-10, ‘Freckle Face’ prefers to be planted in full sun and is slightly drought tolerant. Be sure not to plant this in an area that stays wet in the winter. Blooming for several weeks in late summer, Belamcanda ‘Freckle Face’ carries on its interest into the fall with unique tan seed pods, which crack open, revealing black seeds that look like blackberries. This butterfly attracting perennial is a perfect plant for borders, specimens or planted in mass. We recommend for our northern gardeners to use a heavy layer of mulch over the winter. Belamcanda ‘Freckle Face’ can be divided in the spring.
