Platycodon are clump-forming, long-lived perennials that are fun to grow due to the habit of their blooms. Their flowers resemble miniature blown-up balloons (hence their common name of 'Balloon Flower') prior to opening up into outward facing bell-shaped blooms. The most common color of Platycodon flowers is blue, but it also comes in pink and white depending on the variety. Best grown in well-drained soil with medium moisture in a full sun to part shade location, 'Balloon Flowers' prefer to be left undisturbed once established. They are ideal for rock gardens, edging or border fronts, and containers.
