Heidi’s Pick

I am choosing Heuchera ‘Paris’ for the impressive show of flowers. Standing tall above the green foliage are the red flowers that ‘Paris’ produces all summer long.

(Coral Bells) Heuchera ‘Paris’ is a free-flowering cousin to ‘Hollywood’ with striking, medium size white-veiled leaves that give rise to columns of large, deep rose colored flowers. ‘Paris’ is an excellent repeat bloomer which makes it great in containers as well as your garden. Hummingbirds and butterflies will love the bright color and the sweet nectar! Heuchera are easy to grow and ‘Paris’ will perform well in full to part shade that has average soil and good drainage. The delicate long stems with the deep rose flowers are perfect for fresh arrangements. Are deer a problem in your garden? This Heuchera is both deer and rabbit resistant.

Deer destroyed my beautiful big clumps of Paris Heuchera
I’ve had about 10 large clumps of Paris Heuchera for about 5-6 years. They had really formed lovely clumps and bloomed their heads off. But in early winter this year the deer came and totally devoured them – eating all the leaves and ripping the roots out of the ground. Really destroyed them overnight. I had a lot of money tied up in them, as well as loving them so much in front of my row of Endless Summer hydrangeas which I’ve had for about 6 years and so far the deer have never touched. I had to uproot several old overgrown Korean Spice Viburnum across the perimeter of my perennial garden – and I guess they were deterring the deer from entering my garden because of their woody growth. Since they’re gone, the deer have trampled my entire garden until it looks as though a herd of cattle have taken up residence. The deer loved my Heuchera.

    Blooms Non-stop
Heidi is right…this plant is gorgeous! I have many coral bells and this is my favorite. The foliage is attractive and the flowers are a beautiful dark pink color. It also blooms nearly non-stop.
