(Hosta) ‘Old Glory’ Hosta is a sport of ‘Glory’ and has sweet, heart-shaped leaves with golden yellow centers and uneven 1-inch wide dark green margins. In midsummer 24-inch scapes are produced that display soft light lavender flowers. You may get a few winged friends visiting your hosta as the flowers attract hummingbirds. Hardy in zones 3-9, it can reach a maximum height of 14 inches and can spread as wide as 24 inches. Hostas grow best in part shade to full shade locations and ‘Old Glory’ is no exception. It is recommended to mulch the base of the plant during the first few years of its life in the ground. This will help trap moisture around the roots. Also do this if your hosta is planted in a more sunny location. Once the temperatures drop and the foliage starts to die and become slimy, we recommend trimming off the leaves. This helps keep the plant clean and ready for new growth in the spring, as well as, it helps mitigate slugs. Add color to your landscape foliage with ‘Old Glory’ hosta!
