(Potato Vine) Solanum ‘Yellow Zebra’ is an attractive vigorous climbing/trailing vine with variegated green and cream heart-shaped foliage. Also known as potato vine, Solanum ‘Yellow Zebra’ is in the nightshade family. Growing 2-4 feet high by 18-24″ wide, ‘Yellow Zebra’ can be trained up a trellis, used as a ground cover, or as a great spiller in hanging baskets, window boxes or mixed containers. ‘Yellow Zebra’ is considered an annual in most zones except for those in zones 9-11 where it is a semi-evergreen vine and can reach heights of 15-20 feet. Grown mostly for its decorative foliage, ‘Yellow Zebra’ does produce clusters of dainty star-shaped white flowers that are sweetly fragrant and are attractive to Hummingbirds. These blooms appear on the ends of the branches in late spring to mid fall. Place Solanum ‘Yellow Zebra’ in a full sun location in average, well-drained soil and provide regular moisture. ‘Yellow Zebra’ is deer resistant, but be aware that all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested so plan accordingly.
