(Sweetshrub) Bold and beautiful flowers are what you will enjoy with Calycanthus ‘Aphrodite’ sweetshrub. Standing 5-10’ tall and wide, this large shrub is covered with large, glossy green foliage. The deep red wine-colored flowers appear in early summer here in Michigan and continue to bloom long into summer. Fragrance depends on the age of the flowers, the time of day, and the weather. The scent has been described as a combination of pineapple, banana, and strawberries, some even notice scents of bubblegum. While some may notice the scent others may not. I just picked up my plant this spring and I know it won’t bloom this year but it is nice and healthy and has put on a good amount of growth already. I am very pleased.

Beautiful Blooms. For some strange reason, this year there is no fragrance. I gave one plant to my sister-in-law years ago. We live 50 miles apart. She noticed that hers also has no fragrance this year. Is there anything that we can do to bring the fragrance back ???
