(Bush Honeysuckle) Fantastic foliage in full sun to full shade! Diervilla KODIAK® Red is a tough little plant that is easy to grow. Standing 3-4 foot tall, the glossy, green foliage is an attractive shade of red in the Spring and Fall with red tips during the summer. Then, watch out fall, KODIAK® Red is a hot little shrub! Not only does KODIAK® Red have great foliage it also has bright red stems. The newer the growth the more vibrant the color. We recommend trimming your plant back in the fall. In midsummer bright yellow flowers dapple the glossy green foliage. Diervilla KODIAK® Red attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and bees. The best part, Diervilla KODIAK® Red can be grown in full sun to full shade, although best color appears in sun. This native variety is drought tolerant and deer resistant. A PROVEN WINNERS® COLORCHOICE® Shrub.

I placed 2 of these in a primarily shaded location. They have flourished and provided some color to the location, with no interest from the deer. I would agree with the description that they likely would provide more color with more sun, but happy to have them providing the backdrop I was seeking on the outer edge of a patio perennial garden despite the lack of sunlight.
