(Rose Mallow) The deepest, richest red flowering hibiscus in our collection is Hibiscus ‘Blackberry Merlot’. The extra large 8-inch, dinner-size blooms feature large overlapped petals deep red in color. The bright green foliage forms a mounding habit that is 4.5 feet tall by 4 feet wide. One of the last perennials to emerge in the spring, Hardy Hibiscus is quick to put on growth once it emerges. ‘Blackberry Merlot’ is usually in full bloom around the beginning of August here in Michigan. Hardy in zones 4-9, Rose Mallow likes to be grown in full sun to part sun location with moderate to moist soil conditions. This native, deer-resistant perennial is a rapid grower once it gets established. If you are looking for a plant that will create a ‘wow’ factor, the dinner plate-sized blooms of Hibiscus ‘Blackberry’ Merlot will not disappoint.
