Long blooming, drought tolerant and low maintenance is oenothera. More commonly called evening primrose, this perennial attracts a myriad of butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds and beneficial insects to the garden. Plant in full sun to part shade for optimal results, and blooms begin to appear late spring to early summer. The individual flowers on evening primrose may only last a day or two, but they bloom right after the other with a showy display of flowers.
