(Siberian Iris) ‘Purring Tiger’ Iris is unique. It features 3 yellow, outer petals with deep purple veins, and several solid purple petals make up the center of the flower, which stands atop sturdy, green stems. Shorter compared to other Siberian irises, it only reaches a maximum height and width of 18-20 inches. Perfect for a border planting, mass planting, or a focal point in the garden. Hardy in zones 3-9, its flowers emerge in the early summer between when the Japanese Irises bloom and when the Tall Bearded Irises bloom. ‘Purring Tiger’ Iris grows best in full sun to part shade locations. It requires moderate to consistent watering (don’t let the soil dry out), and it is a great option for near water sources such as streams and ponds. Its blooms attract hummingbirds and bees so you’re sure to see a flurry of activity around the flowers. It is also both deer and rabbit-resistant. Siberian Irises are pretty resilient, and ‘Purring Tiger’ in particular is one of the easiest to grow and maintain.
